CONNECT WITH US
September in Florida offers a stellar opportunity for families to explore the
cosmos together, with planetariums, science centers, and observatories
across the state hosting engaging programs that blend education and
wonder. As summer fades and skies begin to clear, venues like the Orlando
Science Center’s Crosby Observatory invite visitors to peer through
Florida’s largest publicly accessible refractor telescope, revealing the rings
of Saturn, Jupiter’s moons, and deep-sky objects like galaxies and nebulas.
These experiences are often weather-dependent, but when conditions
align, the view is unforgettable.
Families can also venture to the Bishop Planetarium in Bradenton or the Bryan-Gooding
Planetarium in Jacksonville, where immersive dome shows simulate the night sky and explain
celestial phenomena in ways that captivate both kids and adults. Many of these planetariums
are part of larger science centers, offering hands-on exhibits that explore physics, space travel,
and Earth sciences—perfect for sparking curiosity in young minds.
September is also a great time for outdoor stargazing events, as cooler evenings make for
comfortable viewing. Some observatories, like those at St. Petersburg College or Eastern Florida
State College, host public nights where amateur astronomers share their telescopes and
knowledge with newcomers. Whether watching a meteor shower, attending a laser light show
synced to cosmic themes, or learning about constellations under a dome, Florida’s astronomy
venues create unforgettable family memories. With 19 permanent planetariums statewide,
there’s always a new sky to explore. These outings not only entertain but also inspire a deeper
appreciation for science and the universe, making September a perfect month for families to
look up, learn, and connect under the stars.
