Paddles – don’t get stuck drifting endlessly, have a paddle onboard.
Boat drain plug – its an obvious one, but a mistake that happens all too often and you don’t’ find out
until your boat is sinking. Make sure you put it back in for the season, before you go out!
Registration – check to make sure your registrations are up to date, you’d be surprised how quickly they
expire. The office for registration (for lake county), located in Clermont has really upped its game in the
past 5 years with getting you through the process quickly, or you can jump on-line to renew.
Dock Decking boards – if you own a dock, things can shift and change – especially with Florida’s harsh
winter storms. Loose boards can cause trip and safety hazards. If you have wood decking, boards
continue to rot and will also become unsafe. Sometimes its as easy as just replacing a board, but other
times there can be something bigger going on in the structure underneath. If you are not sure, contact a
reputable dock company to come inspect if you feel something isn’t right. See recommended company
below.
Dock structure – if your dock is a few years old, check to make sure things are not loose or rotting or
have a qualified person from a reputable dock company inspect your dock if you feel it moving or
shifting under your feet or if the deck has begun to sag – those are warning signs that something isn’t
right and needs to be checked.
Boat lift – Have a reputable company check your boat lift system for safety and smooth operation so it
doesn’t cause problems that impede you from enjoying your first boating day out. Annual service is
highly recommended. See recommended company below.
Enjoy – Time to go out and enjoy your day, bring family, friends and pets out for a great day on the
water and remember to bring drinks, snacks and sunscreen if you plan to be out on the water and in the
sun for more than an hour.
